The book chapter on unrecognized ethnic minorities in Slovenia

Cambridge University press has just released a new book »Ethnic Minorities and Politics in Post-Socialist Southeastern Europe« in which Peace insitute colleague Mojca Pajnik contributed one of the chapters. Her chapter titled “Nationalizing Citizenship: The Case of Unrecognized Ethnic Minorities in Slovenia” adressess processes of nationalizing citizenship, focusing on minority policies in post-socialist Slovenia. It is shown how the “securitization approach” in minority and migration regimes aims primarily to protect the national ideologies, consequently exacerbating the poor conditions and thin rights of certain minorities.

Fathers and Employers in Action – ODA

The project 'Fathers and Employers in Action – ODA' was successfully completed. It focused on fathers in precarious forms of employment and fathers at managerial positions at the point of work-life balance, and addressed employers with implementation of ‘fathers-friendly’ measures in four organizations in Slovenia.

Monograph: 'Transformations of Fatherhood: Men between Parenthood and Work'

New book "Transformations of Fatherhood: Men between Parenthood and Work" edited by dr. Majda Hrženjak was published by Peace insitute. The monograph tackles problematic relations between the contemporary labour market and fatherhood. It highlights the increasing precarization of work and marginalization of care work, along with the increasing inequalities rising from different positions in paid and unpaid work.

"Fathers. Short Stories about Contemporary Parenthood" edited by dr. Živa Humer and dr. Iztok Šori is the collection of 24 stories of men in Slovenia and Norway sharing dilemmas, conflicts, thoughts and feelings on their role of fathers. Stories reveal complex positions of fathers and their considerations about fatherhood and fathering, which can be understood in the context of process of emancipation of men in Slovenia.

Communicating citizens' protests, requiring public accountability: Case studies from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia

The book edited by dr. Sanela Hodžić and dr. Mojca Pajnik reflects on communication practices during social uprisings in 2013 and 2014 in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia.The study finds that response to protests by both media and the government was rather systemic, with both failing to act in the public interest.

Uprising movements analyzed in Družboslovne razprave journal

Researchers of the Peace Institute and colleagues contributed to the thematic cluster in the journal Družboslovne razprave analysing the uprising movement in Slovenia in the period 2012–2013. Articles include the analysis of various actors of the uprising, addressing the specifics and differences between the movements and the importance of movement’s action, including the thematization of the role of information and communication technologies in mobilization.
