UNHCR Slovenia and Peace Institute, Ljubljana are organizing Statelessness Workshop, which will be held from 19th to 20th December 2016 in Hotel Park, Bled, Slovenia. The overall objective of the workshop is to come up with ways to support Slovenia in aligning its policies with targeted actions to address issues of concern in the area of statelessness in accordance with international standards; in particular:
- Raise awareness on the issue of statelessness;
- Lobby with the Government of Slovenia on the accession to the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness;
- Strengthen the existing mechanism provided for in the Aliens Act to recognise and/or provide documentation to stateless persons in Slovenia;
- Brainstorm on methodologies to identify and profile stateless persons;
The conclusions of the workshop will form an integral part of UNHCR Slovenia protection strategy, work plan and follow-up actions in 2017.
The workshop will be in Slovene language and English.
