FIERCE in Madrid: partners meeting and designing a feminist campaign for the upcoming European elections

The fourth consortium meeting of the European research project FIERCE took place in Madrid on 7 February to present the preliminary results of the research activities carried out so far and to operationalise the next steps of the research. Using the method of critical frame analysis, we analysed parliamentary debates and activist documents of LGBTIQ+ and reproductive rights campaigns in Slovenia, and conducted interviews with representatives of various initiatives and organisations, through which we gained insight into the discourses, repertoires of action and mobilisation patterns of the feminist and anti-gender movement. The focus of the next steps of the research will be on a multidimensional comparative analysis of the eight partner countries (Denmark, France, Greece, Italy, Poland, Slovenia, Spain and Turkey) in the core thematic areas of the project: labour market, health and reproductive rights, LGBTIQ+ rights, migration and gender-based violence.

Over the next two days, the transnational FIERCE lab took place, offering a space for feminist activists from different partner countries to come together to design a joint campaign for the upcoming European Parliament elections. The aim of the campaign is to present feminist demands to the candidates for the European elections, focusing on gender-based violence, LGBTIQ+ and reproductive rights, foreign policy and peacebuilding, care work, labour market, and responding to anti-gender discourses and narratives.
