Media Construction of Homosexual Identity

This is a postgraduate project aimed at delineating the representational patterns in presentations of homosexuality in Slovene daily media and magazines in the past thirty years, from 1970 to 2000. These media representations will be looked at in connection to opinion polls on attitudes toward homosexuality and also in their impact on formations of such attitudes. This research project is based on the findings of contemporary media studies that attribute a considerable role to media in current ideological struggles for definition. Despite this, the generally positive media representations of homosexuality will fail to relate to opinion polls that still present a mostly negative picture of attitudes towards homosexuality.
