North Macedonia: EU Digital and Media Acquis Harmonisation and Digital Transformation Skills Development

The project aims to further develop and deepen reforms in the media sector in North Macedonia, to develop a national media strategy and an implementation action plan aligned with European standards, in particular the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA), the Digital Services Act (DSA), and other relevant EU regulations. The goals include ensuring media pluralism, independence, and financial sustainability, improving the social and economic status of journalists, strengthening professional standards, and enhancing resilience against online disinformation and harmful content. The project also seeks to harmonize national legislation with the EU legal framework, strengthen the regulatory capacities of competent institutions, and provide training for public servants and media professionals to ensure effective implementation of the new rules. Special emphasis is placed on the inclusion of all relevant stakeholders—state institutions, public and private media, civil society, journalists’ organizations, and academia—and on a professional, transparent, and participatory approach to the development of the media sector in North Macedonia.
