Advancing the Principles of the De-monopolization of Media Ownership: The Practice Intersections of Slovenia and Kazakhstan

Study visit The Peace Institute organized a study visit of journalists from different institutions in Kazakhstan. Meetings were held with relevant officials and experts, and study visits were organized to relevant institutions, such as the Ministry of Culture, Competition Protection Office, and Broadcasting Council. In addition, experts from the Peace Institute and its partners presented their own research, advocacy and campaigning activities in order to share Slovenian media NGO experience in the main priority area of media de-monopolization and media ownership concentration. The following topics were debated: media concentration, legal framework, de-monopolization advocacy campaign, media market mechanisms and monopolization, and the role of specialized state regulatory agencies.
