Policy coherence for (sustainable) development – assesment of the effects of Slovenian national policies on developing countries and on the sustainable development of the Republic of Slovenia

The purpose of the research project, which is carried out in partnership with the Faculty of Social Sciences, is the preparation of systemic solutions for enforcing the principle of policy coherence for (sustainable) development, in order to ensure high-quality international development cooperation to help developing countries and to enrich the meager available resources further with the positive influence of other policies.

The set goals are: 1) Creating a comprehensive review of the implementation of public policies with the greatest effects on sustainable development and developing countries; 2) Identify the key areas with the greatest effects of public policies on sustainable development and developing countries; 3) Design systemic solutions related to reducing the negative effects or incoherence of public policies from the first point; 4) Develop a systemic solution to support the government and stakeholders in relation to the determination of development directions and policies in individual areas of public interest.

Project execution

In the first phase, the project will focus on a comprehensive review of the implementation of public policies with the greatest effects on sustainable development and developing countries for five EU priority areas (trade and finance; climate change; food security; migration; security and development). Since, in accordance with the adopted strategic documents, the majority of Slovenian development aid is focused on a limited number of substantive and geographical priorities, in the second phase of the project we will focus precisely on the analysis of compliance with policies for (sustainable) development in these areas. Both analyzes will provide a good basis for the design of the system solutions needed by the client and which are the subject of the third and fourth phases of the project.
