Populism through and by the media

The media react in various ways to populism of political parties and their leaders; they decide when and why news is worth publishing, populism by party politics can be reinforced by the media while the media can also act as gatekeepers to populist communication. At the meeting of the research project “Political and Media Populism: The ‘Refugee Crisis’ in Slovenia and Austria”, we designed a research module to study the relations between the media and populism. The meeting was held at the University of Vienna on 6 and 7 February.
